Library Resources for Streaming Media

The library has a large collection of streaming videos on many subjects. Most individual films have URLs that you can put on your Canvas site. Please contact Course Reserves if you want help to put film(s) on Canvas.

Milner Library offers three places you can check for streaming films to show in your classroom:

Milner Library Catalog

  •     Search for the film in Milner’s Catalog.
    • To search only the Milner catalog, change the Everything dropdown on the search box under Start Your Research to Library Catalog.
  •     The catalog lists many films from streaming services.
  •     We do not put films from Kanopy or Swank in our catalog. To find films from Kanopy or Swank, search directly in Kanopy or Swank (see below).

Kanopy Streaming Video

  • Kanopy offers a variety of documentaries and feature films from an array of producers and distributors. Milner Library has made many of these documentaries and educational films available for viewing on Kanopy.
  • Each film that we license from Kanopy costs $150 on average, so to help control costs, we’ve also mediated some Kanopy films.
  • To access a mediated film, choose the ‘Request Access’ button below the film’s thumbnail to get a request form. Fill out the form and the library’s eMedia team will review your request. Expect a response within 2 business days.

Swank Digital Campus

  •  Swank Digital Campus provides a variety of films, documentaries, foreign films, and TV shows.
  •  Milner Library licenses individual films from Swank Digital Campus.
  •  If you find a film on Swank that you want to show, please let your subject librarian know.

Streaming Amazon Prime, Disney+, HBO, Hulu, or Paramount+ in the Classroom

Streaming Amazon Prime, Disney+/ESPN+, HBO, Hulu, or Paramount+ in the classroom is not allowed. When creating your personal accounts on these streaming sites, you agree to their Terms and Conditions or Terms of Use, which state that you may use your account for personal, non-commercial use only. While classroom use is non-commercial use, it is not personal use. Streaming content in a classroom setting would be a direct violation of the streaming platform’s licensing terms. Please choose similar streaming videos from the library catalog, Kanopy, or Swank to show in the classroom instead. You can view the Terms and Conditions or Terms of Use for Amazon Prime, Disney+/ESPN+, HBO, Hulu, or Paramount+ on their websites.

What If I Can’t Find the Film I Need?

While Milner Library does have a large selection of films, we know that there are many more to which we do not have access. If you would like to license a film to which the library does not have access, please contact your subject librarian to discuss options.
