  1. I-Share:
  • First, search for your item in the I-Share Catalog. I-Share is a group of 90+ libraries in Illinois that share items.
  • If you find your item in I-Share, you can try to request it. The Request a Book from I-Share help video shows how to request a book from an I-Share library.
  • If the I-Share library that has your item is nearby, you can go there and use your Redbird Card to check out the item. For example, if you are in Bloomington/Normal, Heartland Community College and Illinois Wesleyan University are in town.
  1. Interlibrary Loan:
  • If I-Share doesn't have your item, you can try to request it through interlibrary loan
  • Interlibrary loan items can take 5-7 days or more depending on the item.
  • Some online articles may come as soon as the same day you request them.
  • The interlibrary loan help videos show how to request items from interlibrary loan.

Alumni and Community Members

  • I-Share and interlibrary loan services are not available to Alumni and community members.
  • You may be able to find the item you need at your nearest public library. If they don’t have it, use interlibrary loan at your nearest public library to request items that are not at Milner Library.
